Greenwood Indiana’s own, Cory “The Irish Carbomb” Mahon (The Irish Carbomb), defeats his opponent Brady “The Alphamale” Hovermale via rear naked Choke in only 1 minute and 22 seconds of the 1st round.
Cory Mahon is just one of our wonderful Coaches at the Indiana Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy (Fight Hub Headquarters). Coach Mahon actually heads our Kids’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program right here in Greenwood Indiana! The Daily Punch was so impressed by Coach Mahon’s performance they did an article on him!
“If you were one of the lucky in attendance saturday night, in Kokomo, IN, you were able to bear witness to the rise of a new era for one of Indiana’s most talented featherweight mixed martial artists. One minute and twenty-two seconds was all it took for Cory “The Irish Carbomb” Mahon to render Brady Hovermale unconscious with a rear naked choke and take home the submission victory. Hovermale came into the fight, 5-1 in his young career, and has been thought of by many to be one of the top up-and-comers of the Hoosier state. “The Irish Car Bomb” wasted little time, securing a takedown in the opening seconds of the bout. After a brief scuffle on the ground, Cory secured back mount with both hooks in and after a little work in distracting Hovermale, was able to sink the choke. Brady tapped just before going out but even with a quick reaction from the referee he was asleep by the time the choke was released. For Mahon (10-4), this fight means more than just another win, it represents a second coming, so to speak. After a quick rise to 8-0 in his young professional career (2005 through 2007), he fell victim to defeat, just after a big victory on HDnet Fights. Although, one loss after making it to a bigger show wasn’t necessarily a problem, more of a minor setback, the three losses that followed were problems, big ones. The kind that had Cory and everyone around him wondering if he should continue, or hang up the gloves on a once bright career. After the first three losses, Mahon spent a year away from fighting to deal with personal struggles and also to see if he still had the desire for competition. Like most who contemplate retiring, after 16 months away from the sport, he felt he had what it took to pick up the pieces and put things back together. His next fight, despite the losses, was against Dustin “The Beast” Neace for the Legends of Fighting Championship’s Featherweight Championship. Close to the end of a hard-fought 3 round affair, Neace secured top position and ended the fight with a barrage of punches that left Mahon defenseless. Battered but not broken, Mahon got back in the gym and 3 months to the day of his loss to Neace, Cory showed up at the LFC arena to square off against Ryan McIntosh. There was a different look in his eyes that night. A look that had been absent for the last few years. A look of hunger and determination. It was the look of a man who felt he had something to prove, not to the world, but to himself. That night, “The Irish Car Bomb” officially announced his return to Mixed Martial Arts, displaying the technique and raw aggression that had once had him lined up for a potential shot in the WEC. Very much like his recent victory of Hovermale, Mahon finished the fight by submission in the first round. Now, after two dominant performances, Cory Mahon may still be putting together some of the pieces of his former run, but you would never know it. In fact, he looks better than ever.”
